What is Carbon-Free Energy?

world's largest carbon-free energy producer

Simply put, Carbon-free energy is the production of electricity in which no fossil fuels are used and zero carbon is emitted. Carbon-free energy sources include wind, solar, and nuclear energy. Many forward-thinking companies are moving in this direction.

The Biggest Carbon-Free Energy Producer

Constellation Energy recently announced on February 2nd, 2022, that they’ve separated from Exelon Corp. and began utilizing regular trading on the NASDAQ Global Select Market Composite (NQGS) under the trading symbol: CEG.

The nation’s largest carbon-free energy producer's mission is to provide the energy and services to transform our future and to take on the challenges of the climate crisis, head-on, by utilizing innovative technology and individualized offerings, to work towards a carbon-free economy.

Constellation Energy’s headquarters are located in Baltimore, MD and the nation’s largest clean-energy-focused company does not have any plan to relocate its headquarters.  They do plan, however, to continue as a Fortune 200 company and the largest company/business in Greater Baltimore, as a competitive energy provider.

The difference between Constellation now and prior is that now, Constellation only services energy supply, while before– Constellation’s business was comprised of both energy supply and utilities.
BGE (Baltimore Gas and Electric), a subsidiary of Constellation was acquired directly by Exelon Corp, the largest utility company in the U.S., after the split between Exelon and Constellation, and the transition is set up to be seamless for customers.

Below, you’ll find Constellation’s strategy for moving forward and goals to respond to the current climate crisis:

  • By 2030, achieve 95% carbon-free electricity for the nation
  • By 2040, achieve 100% carbon-free electricity for the nation and a 100% reduction in operations-driven pollution and emissions
  • By 2040, eliminate all greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing multiple methods of modern technology and resources
  • Constellation will provide 100% of their business customers with individualized and custom data to help them understand and reduce their carbon footprints
