The past few years have seen sluggish movement for BMW after the release of the EV industry-disruptive BMW i3.
Fast-forward to 2022, BMW has been making huge strides with rollouts of their iX3, iX, i4, iX1 and i7 models, while doubling their sales in the first 3 quarters of 2022. Don’t forget about the MINI E by MINI COOPER, who is owned by BMW, is seeing a huge boost in sales.
It is now safe to say that BMW’s 100%-electric models are on the rise!
In 2022, BMW Group sold 128,196 100% electric vehicles, which puts the company up 114.8% if you compare EV sales against the first 9 months of 2021. In total BMW Group experienced 6.6% growth as a whole.
"Dynamic growth in fully-electric vehicles underlines the appeal of our products,” says Pieter Nota, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG.
BMW EV sales are growing at a fast pace, noting that 52,306 electric vehicles were sold in the 3rd quarter of 2022 — above the average across the first three quarters (which would be 42,732.) Of all of the BMW vehicles sold in the third quarter, electric cars accounted for 8.9% of those sales. BMW’s two newest fully-electric models, the BMW i7 and the BMW iX1 are both expected to continue to drive growth.
Meanwhile, the all-electric MINI Cooper SE Electric is also reporting an increase in sales, with the MINI Countryman on the horizon. In 2023, the BEV lineup to be expanded by the BMW i5 and pure battery-electric Rolls-Royce Spectre, which will celebrate its world premiere in October (with sales starting in Q4 2023.)
